Three random things that vex me

Yes, I now have a new keyboard and yes, I said "vex".  I don't mean major things like the current global financial crisis (though that is certainly vexing to say the least), more the little things during the day that give me an irritating moment to pause.

Like....

Where the @#*&^$*& did all my teaspoons go??!!!  I know the location of exactly three.  What could possible cause attrition in the silverware drawer of just the teaspoons?

Why, no matter how many bananas I buy, I always buy one too many?  There is always one lonely banana that sits on the counter destined to turn a sad shade of brown.

And, why, after living here for 3 years I still can't always remember to duck when I go down the stairs?  About once a month, that edge right there causes me a curse-inducing, eye-tearing, crack right on the crest of my skull.

Our house is old by western NY standards; it was build in 1890.  Originally, it had a much steeper staircase and during a past remodel, someone lessened the angle of the stairs but also lessened the distance between the 4th step and the second floor.  Bit of a design flaw.   The distance appears to be exactly 5 feet 5 inches from step to second floor as I actually don't have to duck if I'm not wearing shoes and I come down the stairs with no bounce in my step.  (Yes, I usually have a bit of bounce in my step -- child of the 80's, I guess. I always have some Thomas-Dolby-She-Blinded-Me-With-Science-like soundtrack running in my head causing the bounce.   But otherwise, I need to remember to duck!  I think I have a permanent bump on the top of my head.

And finally, something that doesn't vex me at all.  Snow and kids.  Snow and kids at the bus stop.  Kids that have lived around snow their whole lives and still get excited at the first real snow fall.

Happy days!

(PS: More knitting tomorrow  -- I've been all about hats.)
