Now can you guess where I was?

It has been quite a month travel-wise and experience-wise.  Last night I was able to be part of a whole new experience.  Before I tell you too much, here are some pictures, see if you can guess.

OK, admittedly not the best of pictures.  The light was low and there were a lot of people milling about.  You can't actually see the person-of-interest in this photo.  But note the man being pointed to.  The largest man in the room.  The man with a nondescript ear piece with a coiled cord leading down to from his ear into his suit jacket.

Here's slightly better picture...

Again sorry for the surreal nature of the picture.  Low light.  But can you see her?

How about now?

That is Senator Hillary Clinton and I was just about 5 feet away from her.  No telephoto necessary here.  (Although a good flash would have been nice.)  But there she was and there I was too.  She arrived late at the event so I didn't actually get to talk to her or ask her to
hold my current sock-in-progress but it was still very cool.  She is a commanding presence in a room.

Now some background:  My DH did a wonderful job re-doing the website for our local Democratic committee.  The county Democratic committee looked at it and promptly asked if he could re-do theirs as well.  He did and did a wonderful job.  Consequently he and a guest (that would be me) were invited to the Monroe County Democratic Committee dinner with Senator Hillary Clinton as the keynote speaker.  And a wonderful speaker she is.  (She didn't utter a single "folksy" phrase all evening -- thank goodness.  I'm very tired of folksy.)  She gave an eloquent, inspiring speech focusing on the work ahead and our ability to fix the economy, international reputation, national security issues and social problems the last administration has left after 8 years of bad decisions and poor leadership. She said she looks forward to the election and to Barack Obama becoming president.  (Not surprisingly everyone cheered at this -- the elected officials, the audience and even tellingly all the servers who were bringing out dinner.) She is an excellent speaker and every word she said leads one to appreciate the depth of her intelligence.
