Well, hello there.
Well, hello there!
First day on a new blog. So, Hello there! Welcome!
I plan on blogging (Is that really a verb?) about my adventures in knitting and my adventures being a mom. Both are occasionally frought with peril. (OK, that is a bit dramatic but I was trying to give you something exciting on day one. My day to day life is rarely frought with peril and my knitting, honestly, even less so. But I can settle on "interesting" -- my life as a mom is almost always interesting and my knitting is too. (Unless I'm stuck in miles of repeating garter stitch but I try not to do that.)
Nine things about me.
1. I've been married to my DH for 18 years this year. (Holy matrimony, Bat Man! That's a long time!) We are perfect for each other.
2. I'm the mom of 3 wonderful kids -- ages 9, 6 and 2. My house is busy but I wouldn't have it any other way.
3. I have a terrific family. My sister and brother and both incredibly intelligent, funny and loving. And I totally lucked out with inlaws. (Hi Mom and Dad!)
3. I knit. (and knit, and knit, and knit)
4. I really like the word "really". Really. Although I will really try not use it too much.
5. I'm not a writer. I'm a mathematician/statistician by training so that really (Darn.) affects ..um, effects (see, not a writer) my outlook on pretty much every thing. I'm a concrete sequential. That's the way I see knitting patterns -- give me gauge, give me dimensions, give me proportions, give me yarn!
6. I'm a geek. (See number 5.) I'm a happy geek, though, secure in my geekiness. Need to know anything about the original Star Trek? I'm there for you. I'm also good for STNG, Voyager, Doctor Who (Baker, Davidson, Eccleston and Tennant), Nova, Sherlock Holmes and Amelia Peabody mysteries.
7. I always, always, always vote. Since I turned 18, I've only voted for one presidential candidate who has actually become president. (Make your own inferences as to my political afflications.) Hopefully that will change this year.
8. I live in a wonky 120 year old house in the village of Fairport. Fairport is a small village along the Erie Canal in western NY and it's a really (Rats!) nice place to live. We can walk to the library, ice cream shops, dance studio, pizza places and, best of all, we know our neighbors.
9. I also like to hand paint yarn and dabble in spinning with my drop spindle.
Here are a couple of pictures of recent projects...
I do enjoy hand painting yarn and I have found that I can get just about any color I want by playing mad scientist with Wilton cake dyes. The plan with the yarn below is to make the Rhinebeck hat from Clara Parkes', The Knitter's Book of Yarn

And here is where I stand with Veronik Avery's Notre Dame de Grace Pullover (for my daughter). I'm using Colrain in grape from Webs.

Thanks for reading my blog. As I'm new to blogging, any constructive comments are really (Jeez!) appreciated.

Your site does, in fact, look fantastic and your writing is suitably witty and amusing. I do not, however, recall anyone previously slapping the adjective "loving" on me. That's just absurd.
NB: it's "affects."
